Minimalist Bachelor Apartment in Ramat Gan

A second-hand apartment belonging to a family, lived in by one of their sons. The aim of the renovation — and really the challenge — was how to make one large space with eye contact between the living room and the seating area and the kitchen. In its original form the kitchen sat inside a room with a door, in the spirit of 1960s planning in Israel, entirely cut off from the living room.

Since the brief was also to seat the whole family in the living room, we chose to divide the space along its length with an island that merges into an existing column. On one side the island serves as a display front and as the "television wall", while the kitchen itself is a central island flanked by tall cupboards. The kitchen window is in fact the main window onto the street, the one the living room used in the previous layout.

Above the island an extractor draws cooking smells away efficiently, without the noise of a fan unit. And the height the screen needs on one side makes room for convenient storage in the back of the island.
